The New York Jets entered the 2022 NFL Draft with the most draft capital in the league, and they certainly used it well. Not only did they make two selections inside the top 10, they also traded up from the second round to make a third first-round pick.

As a result, the Jets made seven total picks, all inside of the top 120 selections. Those moves certainly caught the attention and imagination of Jets fans and sports betting New York players.

The rich bounty of the draft followed a free agency period earlier this year.

But how much did this draft class change the Jets’ futures odds for the 2022 NFL season? First, let's take a look at the draft history for the New York Jets and then their odds for the season.

Jets History with Defensive Backs in First Round

The Jets have taken several defensive backs in the first round in their franchise history and Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner of Cincinnati is just the latest. Picked at No. 4, he is the second-highest drafted defensive back in their history behind only Jerry Stovall.

The last cornerback the Jets took in the first round was Dee Milliner from Alabama in the 2013 NFL Draft. He played just 21 games in the NFL before the Jets released him.

Jets History with Wide Receivers in First Round

Garrett Wilson of Ohio State was the No. 10 pick by the Jets, but he was only the fifth receiver ever selected in the first round by the Jets. The last first-round receiver by New York was Santana Moss during the 2001 NFL Draft. Wilson was the second receiver taken in the first round, behind only USC’s Drake London by the Falcons at No. 8.

Name Year Pick No. Pro Bowls
Santana Moss 2001 16 1
Keyshawn Johnson 1996 1 3
Al Toon 1985 10 3
Lam Jones 1980 2 0

Jets History with Defensive Ends in First Round

The Jets traded back into the first round to select Florida State’s Jermaine Johnson II at No. 26 after considering him at No. 10.

Johnson is just the latest first-round defensive end for the Jets as they've selected 11 others during their franchise history. The most recent defensive end selection was Leonard Williams at No. 6 during the 2015 draft. However, he played more of a 3-4 defensive end role than as a pure -rusher.

The last "true" defensive end they selected in Round 1 was Quinton Coples from North Carolina (2012). He started 32 games for the Jets, tallying 16.5 sacks.

Name Year Pick No. Pro Bowls
Leonard Williams 2015 6 1
Quinton Coples 2012 16 0

Who the Jets Took in the Draft

New York Still a Huge Longshot to Win Super Bowl After Draft

Despite three first-round picks, the New York Jets still have among the worst odds in the NFL to win the Super Bowl, according to DraftKings Sportsbook New York.

In NFL betting, DraftKings has the Jets’ odds to win the Super Bowl at +15000. Their odds of winning the AFC are at +8000 and their odds of winning the AFC East are at +2500.

The Jets are in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL as the Buffalo Bills are the current Super Bowl favorite. But with a draft class like this, the Jets might not be too far away from competing with the Bills for the top spot in the division.
